Empower NGO in collaboration with Rotary Club of Zirakpur and Chandigarh Administration distributed about 6000 sanitary napkins to the underprivileged girls and women living in garments suburbs. Sanitisers and juice was also distributed along with it.
Empower NGO for special children was founded by Sharmita Bhinder and Bharati Kapoor. “We realised that food was being given by many organisations cooked as well as dry ration”, they said, adding that they decided to distribute sanitary napkins to underprivileged girls. “The drive is on and we will distribute 10 thousand napkins in the first phase”, add Bhinder and Kapoor.
“We on a regular basis provide napkins and panties to orphanages and underprivileged schools every two month so as to maintain a regular supply which helps in maintaining menstrual hygiene. We have regular workshops and have doctors present to solve medical issues and discuss problems”, says Sharmita.
“We realised that just giving the napkin was not enough as they don’t have money for panties. So we started giving regular supply of panties with the napkins”, she adds.
Bharati while giving details about the NGO says, “The idea behind coming up with this NGO was to bring special and normal children on a common platform. We work for special education as we are trainers of specific learning disability and challenges. We are into activism and do many shows for fundraising.”
She adds, “With the passage of time we work with all NGOs pan India to support various causes from child abuse, incest, women issues etc.”
