Chandigarh’s Round Table Conference Centers on LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity and Partnership with Institutions

A gathering was convened in Chandigarh with the aim of promoting inclusivity and bridging the gap between the LGBTQIA+ community and various institutions, including governmental bodies. Supported by the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, and facilitated by Rubaroo, an NGO from Hyderabad dedicated to social inclusion, the roundtable brought together a diverse array of stakeholders dedicated to advancing LGBTQIA+ rights and inclusivity.

In his opening address, Amandeep Grewal, Deputy Head of Mission at the British Deputy High Commission, Chandigarh, reiterated the UK Government’s dedication to fostering societies where safety, opportunity, and respect are inherent for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Grewal stressed the crucial role of promoting gender diversity and inclusion in realizing this objective, recognizing the unique challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals, including discrimination and exclusion in various aspects of life.

The conference served as a platform for LGBTQIA+ rights activists, community members, scholars, advocates, and civil society representatives to engage in constructive dialogue and collaboration. Participants shared insights, experiences, and innovative ideas aimed at tackling the obstacles to LGBTQIA+ inclusivity and advancing the rights of the community.

Throughout the conference, there was a strong emphasis on the importance of collective action and collaboration in fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. It demonstrated the commitment of all stakeholders to building a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
