If Ratan Tata puts his finger on anything, one can be rest assured, that it must be among the best. So, it came as no surprise that a start-up he backed, Repos, has represented India at Europe’s biggest start-up and tech event – Vivo Technology 2022.

The firm’s presentation of its innovative solution of Mobile Energy Distribution – Repos Mobile Petrol Pump through the energy e-commerce platform – received a tremendous response at the global show. The company believes that its concept will help the world transition toward a carbon-neutral future.

It is for the first time ever, that India was chosen as the Country of the Year for the 6th edition of Viva Technology 2022, which was held from June 15 to June 18.

Viva Technology is recognized worldwide as a powerful catalyst for business transformation, start-up growth, and innovation for the common good. Since 2016, VivaTech has been bringing -together, in Paris and online, business leaders, start-ups, investors, researchers, and innovators to ignite positive change in business and for society.

The event gave an opportunity for start-ups to showcase their innovations in technology that have the potential to create greater good for humanity. Repos is one of the very few start-ups that represented India physically at the event.

The founders of the start-up, the husband-wife team of Chetan Walunk and Aditi Bhosale Walunj, were ecstatic over the opportunity and said, “There is no bigger honour than representing your country on a global platform.”

Repos has also recently raised a pre-Series A round of funding of Rs 560 million from Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata, and other investors. This is the first time ever that a start-up has received funding from Ratan Tata twice. Repos aims to solve the problem of increasing carbon emissions through an effective and systematic distribution of energy. They are currently present in over 220 cities across India through its 1,500+partners and 2,500+ Repos Mobile Petrol Pumps.

Aditi Bhosale Walunj

In 2017, Chetan Walunj and his wife Aditi Bhosale Walunj set on a mission to take their family business of a petrol pump, to a newer dimension. From a homegrown petrol pump business in Maharashtra to forming a dynamic energy grid.

This young couple is setting up a whole ecosystem to provide cost-effective solutions for India’s ever-growing need for energy logistics – Starting with diesel, through mobile petrol pumps (A stationary petrol pump being replicated on wheels). Fuelling large-scale industries was something that they were catering to on an everyday basis. After noticing a massive amount of fuel loss due to theft and spillage – the duo decided it was time this issue was addressed.

They saw a great opportunity to overcome these challenges by offering a door-to-door service of diesel to not just their existing end users – but to the entire nation. Repos Energy was born out of the couple’s sheer passion and relentless hard work. And today, they can be easily termed as the leaders in the energy distribution space.

The company is backed by Ratan Tata and has been achieving some major milestones ever since its inception. During the lockdown and crisis, they emerged stronger and helped to fuel hospitals, the agricultural sector, and residential societies whenever they fell short of diesel.

Repos recently won the national start-up award at the prestigious 6-day Start-up India Innovation Week. Repos was amongst the 150 entrepreneurs who got the opportunity to present their policy recommendations at the virtual gathering presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Repos won this award in the Energy distribution category.
