This college dropout hailing from a middle-class family in Mumbai knew what she wanted to become when she grew up – a model and an actress, and knew exactly what she wanted to do even as a kid.
But what she has not acquired in formal Graduation and academics, she has more than compensated for it through her experience and experiences in the real professional arena — the glitzy and glamourous world of modelling, and acting.
Maushmi Udeshi was just 13, in class IX in a Mumbai school, when she began modelling. Yes, her banker father and home maker mother supported her interest, thinking it might be a passing fad, but as life turned out, Maushmi made it in her profession, and became a successful one at that, one that paid her bills and maintained her lifestyle, and financed her preparations for an acting career as well.
Maushmi made it big very soon in her profession. From her 1st Ad Campaign Nescafe itself she hit big time in modelling and also did many popular Music Videos like Bally Sagoo’s Noorie, Late Nitin Bali’s ‘Neele Neele Ambar’, Singer Arvinder Singh’s ‘Pani Sharab Mein’ for HMV Sa Re Ga Ma, Balkar Siddhu’s Punjabi Video ‘Jaan’ for T Series and the likes.
A trained classical (Bharatnatyam) dancer, she also has done an item Song for Film ‘Bhagam Bhag’ with Akshay Kumar & Govinda.
She has already bought a flat of her own in 2012, in the same society where she lives with her parents. She lives and works as per her strict rules and principles, even though she knows that the struggle is hard and long. For her, peace of mind is extremely important, and which is why she has learnt to work without giving in to indecent proposals of any film maker. Work with conditions attached is a strict no.
Maushmi has also turned an entrepreneur and is a partner in a production house making ad films and photo shoots for advertising campaigns.
“Modelling of course, is my Bread, Butter & Jam, which takes care of my regular expenses. Apart from being a model, actress, I am also a Partner in a Production House, making Ad films and print shoots,” if we get a good opportunity on & off, Maushmi told Tricity Scoop in an exclusive chat.
“I started modelling as a student and so definitely studies took a back seat. Anyways, I was never interested in studies & making a career out if it but somehow, I managed to finish my SYBCom. But I could not give my Graduation exams as I was not prepared to study hard for my TYBCom exams and also, I had lost interest in studies completely,” she said, but added, “to each his or her own, for me studies did not work.”
The dream, for her, however has been to dazzle in Films & Web series, but in meaningful and meaty roles. She grew in her acting career, from her first short film, ‘The Tight-Rope Walker’ that went to Venice Film Festival. Her feature film Parakashtha was shown at the Jaipur International Film Festival too which will release soon too.
She has a string of memorable lead characters in films like ‘Yeh Toh Two Much Ho Gaya’ along with Jimmy Shergill and Murli Sharma. Her most famous English Short-Film ‘The Stolen Christmas’ on Amazon Prime, Hotstar & Kara Studios YouTube Channel ‘The Short Cuts’, got her Millions of Views and appreciation.
She says “My Ullu App Web series – ‘The Host’ in Erotic Horror Genre got me even more popularity with the masses and my work in Historic web series Chhatrasal that released on MX Player in August 2021 fetched me ITA award nomination. The Award Function will be held in March 2022 in Mumbai. Besides, she won many awards for her contribution in the field of modelling and acting.
“All this recognition and success definitely encourages me to work harder and do my best in the acting field,” Maushmi says.
She is pretty excited about her new film, Cinemaa Zindabad that has just released on MX Player on January 8th, 2022. A Hindi film with an ensemble cast, the film depicts the struggle of a group of artists & a Film Director & their journey in Film Industry capturing their wide-ranging emotions along the way.
She has also just finished shooting for an Action Thriller Film for an OTT Platform, as the main lead. She is hoping the film will do her acting career, a world of good.
