Fried Chicken in Yogurt Sauce

Ingredients for fried chicken

  • 500 gms of Chicken curry cut

  • 1 tbsp garam masala

  • 1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder

  • 1 tbsp black pepper powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 1 tsp oil (mustard or olive oil)

  • 5 tbsp of cooking oil

  • Salt to taste

Ingredients for the sauce

  • 1 cup of fresh yogurt

  • 2 medium-size onions

  • 6 garlic pods and 1-inch ginger

  • 2 tbsp mustard or vegetable oil

  • ½ tsp yellow mustard seeds

  • 2 sprigs of curry leaves

Step 1

Marinate the chicken with the ingredients mentioned above and keep it aside for 30 minutes. Now put the onions, garlic and ginger into a grinder with little water and make it a smooth paste. Pour the yogurt and the paste into a bowl and mix it properly.

Step 2

Take a wok, heat up and grease it with cold oil first and remove it. Put the cooking oil and deep fry the chicken in high heat until it is golden brown. Put the fried pieces in a bowl with a paper towel to soak the excess oil.  Now heat a saucepan with oil and temper it with mustard seeds. Lower the heat to add the yogurt mix with curry leaves and close the lid to let it simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 3

Stir the aromatic yogurt mix and add the fried chicken pieces into it. Mix it well, add little water and salt to simmer in low flame for another 20 minutes to finish it. The chicken pieces will absorb the yogurt sauce to give you a unique taste. The dish goes well with some fluffy white rice.
