Meet Varun Mehta and Kanika Gagneja, the power couple who moved to Canada two years ago. While the duo loves the Canadian lifestyle, they can’t deny their love for the City Beautiful.
Why and when did you leave Chandigarh?
I left Chandigarh in 2018, when I moved to Toronto, Canada as a Permanent Resident. I moved here for better opportunities in my profession as an engineer and start a better life. I now live here with my wife Kanika.
What is the one thing that you miss here which was there in Chandigarh and is not here?
Ah! There can’t be just one thing. When you move abroad and look back, you realise how you start missing every small thing that was simply a part of your daily life. Of course, I miss the vibrant vibe, ‘Sector-10 diyan gediyan’, Sector-8’s Street food, ‘sukhna ki walks’ and much more. But if I have to narrow it down, two things that I miss the most are going to be visiting Cafes in Sector-10 with friends and Sector 8’s Gurudwara.
What is the best thing that you like here which is not there in Chandigarh?
The best thing that I like here and I never witnessed in Chandigarh has to be ‘The Fall’. It is so colourful and gorgeous. One can see trees change from green to vibrant autumn oranges, yellows, and reds. And there are plenty of trails, treks and pockets of beauty in and around Toronto which is perfect for weekend getaways.
