We are ‘Hustling’ from Chandigarh!

Yes, you read that right. We know we hustle every day with the simplest of events in our lives but today, we are talking about that one personality who took the slogan ‘Hustle kar, tu hustle kar! Hustle hard!’ a little more seriously than others. If you listen to his music, you know he isn’t here to joke around but to express his feelings as passionately as possible.

Today, we at Tricity Scoop are taking a look into the life of the current contestant at MTV HUSTLE 2.0 – Mukul Monga a.k.a SuperManikk who has blown away the minds of the panel judge Badshah, squad bosses King, EPR, Dino James, Dee MC and the entire Hip-Hop loving audience of our country.

Tell us about your journey of becoming a multi-genre record producer and rapper?
Inspired by Bohemia and Raftaar, back in 2015-16, I started writing verses that turned out to be funny and quirky. Later that year, I shifted to Mumbai, and I felt very distant from my family since there was no shoulder to cry upon. That’s when I actually wrote in my diary to feel motivated, and those verses never came out to be funny, they were filled with power and passion.

And of course, I always wanted to be able to produce my own music. So, I learnt it by myself during the first wave of lockdown. I am still figuring out what is actually ‘my’ type of sound.

But ever since then, I’ve never stopped.

Is this something that you always wanted to do? How has the experience been so far?

Music has been in my life since forever. My mother used to write shayaris and poems. My father is an amazing singer and he’s also a piano/harmonium player.

So, I guess I just had to develop a good sense of music, genetically, which I did.

The experience has been beyond expectations. I’m so grateful for the journey and for all the fruits that I’ve been getting on my way in the form of achievements and lessons.

How did you get the thought of participating in MTV Hustle 2.0 and how did you make it through?

I like to take part in rap competitions. It is always fun and really helpful in the songwriting process etc. I learned about Hustle, gave my audition and with all the luck, made it to the show.

You are seen to be winning hearts at MTV Hustle. Tell us more about it. Also, what is the most challenging part of participating in such a national-level competition dedicated to Hip Hop music?

I’m grateful for this platform and I’m grateful for hip hop to let me present my art freely in front of the whole nation. I’m glad that I’ve been able to serve it nicely to the right audience.

Being on national television is itself a very challenging and at the same time exciting moment in life. The constant pressure and motivation of performing well in front of the whole nation keeps me going on.

Tell us a little about your connection to Chandigarh Tricity?

I started residing in Chandigarh in 2015, for my studies. But the city never allowed me to study and always pushed me into extracurricular activities, be it modelling, singing, writing, etc. I express my gratitude to the city for actually shaping me into who I am today.

How do you keep yourself motivated to work even when everything seems unpredictable around you?

Unpredictability and the place where I wanted to see myself in future are the key factors that keep pushing me to do well in every performance. All the contestants in the show are very talented and really supportive. So, they too, are a major support system.

What are some of your upcoming projects? Do you have any dream collaborators? Like working with Raftaar or even international sensations like Drake or Eminem? What is the most fun part about your job?

I guess that it’ll be great if I let you know about the upcoming projects after MTV Hustle. Because this is the only project, I’m focused on the show right now haha!

I do have big dreams, but I still have a lot to achieve in life before dreaming that big honestly. And the most fun part about my job is that it isn’t my job!

What is the story behind the name Manikk?

Now our dear readers, we think that we might’ve encountered ourselves with a young, talented yet mysterious rapper as he gave a reply to the question as follows,

“Badli thi pehchaan, ateet ko beech mei laana hai.

Yeh ladka Mukul se Manikk tha kaise bana, yeh kabhi bataana nahi..”

If you come across a fellow underdog rapper who is trying to make it big, what would like to say to them?

To this, the Chandigarh-based rapper solemnly responded, “Believe in yourself, work on your art, have patience, and drink enough water.”

One final message for our readers.

Patience and water are the keys to success if you’re working well towards your goals.

Well, that brings us towards the end of the article as we were fortunate enough to take a sneak peek into the life of Mukul Monga a.k.a SuperManikk, a rapper who with his lyrics has solemnly expressed that he isn’t here to joke around. We hope that you loved this week’s cover story, and we promise to return with more stories like this to keep you inspired.
