In another novel initiative, the Khushwant Singh Foundation celebrated Children’s Day with the theme ‘Joy of Learning’ in which more than 50 children from 13 schools across the country participated.
As a part of the Decennial Edition of Khushwant Singh Literary Festival, the Joy of Learning Competition was held for school students to showcase their literary skills in three events namely Joy of Reading, Joy of Ideas and Joy of Words.
Chairperson of the Trust Rahul Singh said, “the mission has been to encourage and draw out ideas that will create a generation which will care for our fragile planet and will look after girl children, an ethos that was so close to the heart of my father, Khushwant Singh.”
In the Joy of Reading, a Book Review, Ajaeshwar S Chahal from YPS Mohali, Punya Arora from YPS, Patiala, and Vinesh Uniyal from The Doon School bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
In the Joy of Ideas, a Storytelling Competition among the budding storytellers, Smayra Mittan from Loreto Convent, Shimla, Sanvi Dalla from PPS Nabha and Ananya Mamgain from Pinegrove bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
Finally, in the Joy of Words, a Spell Bee Competition that tested the students on various formats of spellings in an engaging quiz, Aryan Baruah from The Doon School, Hinam Walia from YPS, Patiala and Harshveer Khokher from YPS, Mohali bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
The first prize winners got a two-night homestay in Kasauli, besides all participants getting books from HarperCollins, as well as commemorative mugs and bags.
The team of eminent judges included theatre doyens, Dolly Thakore and Mahabanoo Mody Kotwal; and authors Rahul Singh, Ashima Bath and Jyotsna Mohan Bhargava.
